The charming village of Glenfinnan features strong historical connections and a stunning railway viaduct that will be familiar to movie fans.
Other day trips
The town of Kingussie, along the A86 to the East, is home to the Highland Wildlife Park, the Highland Folk Museum, a riding school and Ruthven Barracks, so there’s no shortage of things to do.
Just two stops away from Roy Bridge station, let the train take you to the splendid wilderness at Corrour for a day of hills, lochs and fine food.
Arisaig Marine run Island and Wildlife cruises to Eigg, Muck or Rum. To get to Arisaig follow the A830 (“Road to the Isles”) by turning right at the roundabout as you enter Fort William
There’s more to the Nevis Range than just skiing – with miles of cycle trails and forest walks, panoramic views from the UK’s only mountain gondola system, Zoomtrax, high wire adventures and zip slides. The Nevis Range is a full day out for the family at any time of year.
If you prefer to let others do the planning and the driving then Scottish Highland Tours offer a selection of day trips from Fort William. Wild West Safari in Spean Bridge runs wildlife safaris by minibus.
What our guests say:
“Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed staying in your cottage and also its truly splendid view of the mountains. We thought that the views from the nearby viewing point up Glen Roy were brilliant. We had a truly brilliant two weeks touring the mountains and lochs. Wonderful.” Guest, June 2015
